I have been training for about  1,5 years so far at FTI. The biggest change I feel is my consciousness about my movements in doing daily activities. The degree of the pain is reduced significantly. And with Karen’s guidance, I can focus to train the most important parts of my muscles which can support my worn out discs. I enjoy going to FTI as all the trainers show high dedication and train the clients full heartedly. I have been recommending family members and friends to join FTI. The best place to solve your chronic pain and it is a fun and motivating atmosphere to train our body.

According to the doctor, the only option I had—when it reached grade 4—is surgery, which I wanted to avoid. My knees were swollen due to water retention and I had difficulty squatting, as well as going up and down the stairs.

Karen taught me strengthening exercises I could do at home and also showed me how to release tight muscles. Gradually over the months, the aches, pain and tightness reduced significantly. As such my blood circulation has improved and I feel healthier and happier. My flexibility, mobility and stamina have increased. I am more confident to travel and resume my daily exercises.

Ralph guides me through comprehensive workouts. Core stability and balance are the mainstays, but we are also working on strength, power, speed, agility, and endurance. Ralph carefully explains each new exercise and emphasizes proper form, so I can get the most out of it when I'm training on my own. We have discovered some weak spots along the way, and Ralph is teaching me new techniques to address those.

The clientele at FTI is pretty broad. Some people are well-trained athletes, some are more middle-of-the-road like me, some are recovering from injuries, and some are just starting out. But everyone there is there to get results.

The atmosphere is great. It's a friendly, almost family-like atmosphere where people at different levels share a common interest in improved health and fitness.

At our first session, I explained to Nelson about my old ankle injury. Because of this injury, my left ankle is very weak and that affects my stability. My husband and I love dancing but I have never been able to do it well because of my lack of balance. As we discussed my injury and my fears, I became convinced that Nelson knew exactly what he was talking about and how to help me to get where I wanted to go. Perhaps Nelson could help me improve my balance. I had consulted an orthopaedic surgeon about my ankle problem and all he wanted to do was to operate on the ankle. The ankle hurts periodically and I have come to accept that the pain will always be there and my focus was on how to manage the pain. Perhaps Nelson could help me in this too. My wish list to Nelson began to grow as we talked and he explained to me how we could, over time, improve my physical well-being. Strangely enough, the weight issue became secondary. I just wanted to be a stronger person so I could dance better and have less pain in the process.

I have been an active sportsperson nearly all my life – from athletics and hockey in my school years to brisk walking and yoga in more recent years. Since 2005, I adopted an exercise regimen that included a 5km walk in the mornings before heading off to work and the 10-hour, largely sedentary, work day. I was pleased with myself and thought myself as being fit. There was one persistent problem, however, that had plagued me for many years which I had simply not been able to deal with or manage – and that is the excruciating neck and shoulder pain that often left me unable to move, despite all the neck and shoulder exercises that I did. It was quite debilitating and sadly, the only way I could manage it was with pain killers and muscle relaxants.

I have been suffering from debilitating backache since the birth of my first child 11 years ago.  I saw a spine surgeon and he ordered acupuncture sessions for me. However, the sessions did help me in some ways but the pain was not completely gone. I took Pilates lessons from a studio and though it helped me to get fitter but the pain was still there. I gave up on my back blaming it on the mild scoliosis that existed. 2 years ago, both of my feet started to hurt terribly. I could not walk well first thing out of bed and boy it was strange! I would be limping into the bathroom! It was that bad. I bought many types of footwear and compression socks that promised me comfort.  Nothing worked its magic.

I was having frozen shoulder and not able to raise my right arm fully. Got worse through the months as I thought it was just a strain and gave it some time to heal.  It became very painful to raise my right arm to wear my shirt.  I needed to be very careful with the movement of my right arm as it hurts especially when reaching for things high up.  Referred by doctor to 2 physiotherapists for more than a month with minimal improvement along the way. Shared with Nelson at an event, he sounded experienced & confident in helping me to resolve my condition.

Other than working on the frozen shoulder condition, Nelson also corrected my posture.

I’ve always been doing some form of exercise since school days and I regulate with different sports such as netball, swimming 2 to 3 times weekly for a few years and subsequently changed to playing squash, tennis going to the gym and finally cycling. It was therefore very frustrating to me when my back injury prevented me from partaking in any exercise and to make it worse I was advised to totally give up cycling. This happened at the last quarter of 2016. Remarkably, the symptom did not manifest as back pain but more pain along my left leg made worse when I start to stand and walk from a sitting position. The doctor advised surgery but a friend recommended that I seek help from Nelson who was kind enough to see me immediately.
